Polina Sokolova (*1999), born in Tver, Russia, has been living and working in Vienna, Austria, since 2018 and has been studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Daniel Richter's class since 2021. Using the media of painting and installation, she explores how political control mechanisms penetrate our private lives and change our memories and perceptions. A generational trauma based on fear and shame forms a basis for the visual analysis she deals with. With her work, she attempts to look at the complex interplay between violence and power, identity and intimacy from a personal point of view. She reflects on these themes in the context of the conservative society she comes from.
